Prayer
So, we all say how we know how powerful prayer is, and everything … but, recently I came to the true realization of the power of prayer. Two weeks ago, we had a band practice. It was only Michael Duncan, Michael Ertel and I. We were super rushed, and it wasn’t really under control. We just threw two songs together, sounded terrible, and left it at that. Then I realized later on in the week, we didn’t even sit down to pray and devote the time to the reason we’re doing it. So I told Michael we should not play that week. I met with Michael about it over the week about what we needed to do. We tried it, we came into practice Wednesday.. and we were arguing over the songs of what we want to do and how they’re overplayed and too churchy or whatever … I walked away from the conversation and prayed, asking God what to do. I got an immediate answer. Read the words of the song. The songs were Mighty to Save and Blessed Be Your Name. The lyrics are as follows:
blessed Be Your Name In the land that is plentiful Where Your streams of abundance flow Blessed be Your name Blessed Be Your name When I’m found in the desert place Though I walk through the wilderness Blessed Be Your name Every blessing You pour out I’ll turn back to praise When the darkness closes in, Lord Still I will say Blessed be the name of the Lord Blessed be Your name Blessed be the name of the Lord Blessed be Your glorious name Blessed be Your name When the sun’s shining down on me When the world’s ‘all as it should be’ Blessed be Your name Blessed be Your name On the road marked with suffering Though there’s pain in the offering Blessed be Your name Every blessing You pour out I’ll turn back to praise When the darkness closes in, Lord Still I will say Blessed be the name of the Lord Blessed be Your name Blessed be the name of the Lord Blessed be Your glorious name Blessed be the name of the Lord Blessed be Your name Blessed be the name of the Lord Blessed be Your glorious name You give and take away You give and take away My heart will choose to say Lord, blessed be Your name
Everyone needs compassion,
Love that’s never failing;
Let mercy fall on me.
Everyone needs forgiveness,
The kindness of a Saviour;
The Hope of nations.
Saviour, He can move the mountains,
My God is Mighty to save,
He is Mighty to save.
Forever, Author of salvation,
He rose and conquered the grave,
Jesus conquered the grave.
So take me as You find me,
All my fears and failures,
Fill my life again.
I give my life to follow
Everything I believe in,
Now I surrender.
My Saviour, He can move the mountains,
My God is Mighty to save,
He is Mighty to save.
Forever, Author of salvation,
He rose and conquered the grave,
Jesus conquered the grave.
Shine your light and let the whole world see,
We’re singing for the glory of the risen King…Jesus (x2)
My Saviour, He can move the mountains,
My God is Mighty to save,
He is Mighty to save.
Forever, Author of salvation,
He rose and conquered the grave,
Jesus conquered the grave.
My Saviour, you can move the mountains,
You are mighty to save,
You are mighty to save.
Forever, Author of Salvation,
You rose and conquered the grave,
Yes you conquered the grave
So.. we read the lyrics to each song, and had a person pray over it. That was an extremely powerful moment, I completely felt God 100%. He was so present. We were all crying, and so.. humbled. So we started to practice the songs, and I think that’s the first time in our band practice we were REALLY worshipping in practice, and really just enjoying our time of worship. So, all of this is to say … prayer. Prayer is a lot stronger than we can wrap our heads around.
Lots of people kind of blow off prayer as an after thought, or a time that we say our thoughts out loud really, and not honestly ask God for help or thank Him. But, prayer is so much more than that. It’s actually an essential essence in actual production. We cannot get things done in God’s will without God. We cannot do things to the absolute best possible heart without praying. It just does not get done as well without breaking down and letting God in, allowing Him to take over whatever you’re doing. We take for granted prayer so often. We have unlimited access to a PERFECT God. We miss our friends … after not seeing them for a while, but if we don’t talk to God for a day … does it bother us? We were talking about this in Midweek groups with John, and how we really need to be to that point. Where something feels wrong if we haven’t become still, and come before our PERFECT God who created us and LOVES us. If we can’t take 10 minutes out of our day to sit down and spend time with God, how spoiled are we? I know I take it for granted. Do you?
